Building Billion Tap Filters

Signal processing engineers recognize two main classes of filter: finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite (IIR), each with distinct properties. The Prism is a new filter type that combines the best both: numerical stability linear phase FIR together low-cost calculation IIR. Here, we show how to build ultranarrowband filters containing over one billion samples (taps) using sequence Prisms. While designing operating equivalent conventional would require supercomputer resources, these are designed instantly implemented on single field-programmable gate array (FPGA).
